The Anaheim Ducks are a professional ice hockey team based in Anaheim, California, United States and play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). Since their inception, the Ducks have played their home games at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
Amazingly this club came into being as linkup with the promotion of a Walt Disney movie. The club which is in a location just outside Los Angeles was founded in 1993 by The Walt Disney Company as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, a which was based on the 1992 film The Mighty Ducks based on a group of misfit kids who turn their losing youth hockey team into a winning team.
When the franchise was sold, the name of the team was changed to the Anaheim Ducks before the 2006–07 season. The Ducks have made the playoffs 11 times and won four Pacific Division titles (2006–07, 2012–13, 2013–14, and 2014–15), two Western Conference championships (2002–03 and 2006–07) and one Stanley Cup (2006–07).
Some amazing players have been on the ice for the Anaheim Ducks during the past twenty-two years. Teemu Selänne or The Finnish Flash, as Selänne has been called, is one of the greatest players to skate on NHL ice. His ability to skate aggressively around defensemen and unleash a heavy shot past goaltenders has allowed him to become one of the greatest forwards in NHL history. Selänne is the highest scoring Finn in NHL history, and one of the highest overall. He holds the tram record for the most goals in the season and most points in a season while Ryan Getslaf in his one season for the Ducks holds the record for the most assists in a season.
Paul Kariya joined the team in 1994–95 and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team. During his nine-year tenure with Anaheim, Kariya formed an effective duo with fellow winger Teemu Selänne that helped him to three NHL First All-Star Team distinctions, while also finishing as the first runner-up for the Hart Memorial Trophy in 1997.
Scott Niedermayer, one of the greatest offensive-defenseman in the history of the NHL, Niedermayer was able to both score -- he had 10-plus goals in four of his five seasons in Anaheim -- and set up the players around him. With Chris Pronger and Niedermayer patrolling the blue line the defensive-minded Ducks were able to win the Stanley Cup in 2007 and become known as a dominant defensive force in the NHL. Pronger played an important role for the Ducks run as they reached the Stanley Cup Finals and later won the championship. It was also Pronger's second straight finals appearance.
