Club Brugge K.V. is a football club from Belgium who play in the Belgian Pro League. The club are one of the biggest in the country. Club Brugge was founded on 13 November 1891. The team’s home colours are blue and black.
The club plays its home football at the Jan Breydelstadion in Bruges, which has a capacity of 29,500 spectators.
Brugge have won 13 Belgian league titles as well as 10 Belgian cups and 13 Belgian Supercups. The clubs also has a very respectable European record, having reached the UEFA Cup final in 1976 and the European Cup final in 1979, losing on both occasions to Liverpool.
The club’s most recent Belgian League win came in 2005, due to the dominance of Anderlecht and Standard Liege.
The club’s city rival is Cercle Brugge, with whom they share their home stadium and contest the Bruges derby against. Club Brugge’s biggest ever derby win was their 10-0 victory in 1990. Club Brugge have won 95 of the 161 contested derbies.
The club is managed by Michel Preud'homme and the club’s captain is Belgian veteran Timmy Simons. The club also has in its ranks former Barcelona and Chelsea star Eiður Guðjohnsen.
Club Brugge have two retired squad numbers, 12, in honour of the supporters (the 12th man) and 23 in honour of François Sterchele, the former Brugge striker who tragically died in a car accident in 2008. Notable former players of the club include Ronny Rosenthal and Daniel Amokachi, who famously became the first ever UEFA Champions League scorer during his time at the club in 1992.
