Sevilla FC

It seems like no team in world football has excelled in the recent decade as Sevilla FC in grooming young, home-grown players and buying relatively cheap, unknown talents and selling them in a huge profit to Europe’s biggest clubs a few years later. And when one adds this to the fact that the team has remained competitive throughout the years, sitting very close to the top of the Spanish La Liga and winning European cups, Sevilla is synonymous for a very wise management, professional success and above all – passion.

Sevilla Futbol Club was founded in 1890 in the city of Seville, the capital of the Andalusia region. Almost 20 years later, the club of Real Betis was founded, creating one the fiercest rivalries in sports – the battle of Andalusia - Sevilla’s red against Betis’ green. The first Sevilla Derby took place in 1915 and Sevilla won 4-3. Since then Sevilla have won the derby 53 times to Betis’ 37.

Sevilla won their only La Liga title in 1946, but has finished as runners-ups on four different occasions. The club has also won 5 Copa del Rey trophies, two UEFA Cups, 1 Spanish Super Cup and 1 UEFA Super Cup. During the glory years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16, Sevilla won three consecutive Europa League Cups, the only club to have ever achieve that.

Over the last decade, Sevilla has had many superstars in the making, who grew up in its excellent youth academy and later transferred to major clubs for tens of millions of Euros, enabling the club to continue its proper financial management in times when football clubs go over their heads with unreasonable spending. A short list of those players includes: José Antonio Reyes, Sergio Ramos, Júlio Baptista, Dani Alves, Carlos Bacca, Kévin Gameiro, Álvaro Negredo, Jesus Navas, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Ivan Rakitic and Alberto Moreno. Some of the players, like Reyes and Navas, returned to Sevilla after spending some years in England.

The club’s all-time leading scorer is Campana I who scored 218 goals between 1929-1946. Juan Arza is the all-time appearances leader with 414 matches for Sevilla between 1943–1959. Close in and about to becomes the all-time leader is Jesús Navas, who returned to Andalusia from Manchester city for a second spell in Sevilla, with 413 appearances and counting.

Sevilla’s biggest ever win was an 11-1 victory over Real Madrid in the 1940-41 season. In the La Liga era the club has lost 0-8 twice, to Real Oviedo and Real Madrid.

Sevilla play their football at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium which seats 45,500 spectators.
