Inter

Inter Milan is one of the giants of Italian football. The club was founded in 1908 as a breakaway club from the Milan Cricket and Football Club (AC Milan today). The club plays its football at the 80,000-seater Stadio Giueseppe Meazza (commonly known as the San Siro), which they share with their city rivals, AC Milan.

Many legendary footballers have worn the black and blue shirt of Inter Milan, including the Luis Figo, Ronaldo and Jürgen Klinsmann.

Nicknamed the Nerazzurri (black and blues), Inter has won the Serie A title 18 times equal with AC Milan and bettered only by Juventus. Between 2006 and 2010, Inter Milan won five consecutive Serie A titles. Inter has also won the UEFA Champions League on three occasions, most recently in 2010 under the management of Jose Mourinho. The club has also won the Coppa Italia seven times. Inter finished 9th in the 2012-13 Serie A season and 6th the season before.

The club is currently managed by Walter Mazzarri, who took over in May 2013 after a very successful spell as manager of Napoli. Mazzarri is Inter’s sixth manager since Jose Mourinho left the club in 2010. Former notable managers of the club include Roberto Mancini, Marcello Lippi and current England boss, Roy Hodgson.

The club’s captain is 39-year old Argentinian defender, Javier Zanetti, who is the clubs longest serving player. Zanetti, nicknamed Il Capitano (The Captain,) joined Inter Milan in 1995 and has made over 800 appearances for the club. His five Serie A titles with and lengthy commitment to the club have made him a living legend at the San Siro.

Some of the clubs key players today include, Esteban Cambiasso, Diego Milito, Antonio Cassano, Fredy Guarin and Rodrigo Palacio, who was the club’s top scorer in the 2012-13 season.
